Helo Malcolm b,
Your plant may be the Hamamelis x intermedia "Jelena", very coppuery orange blooms. I saw one like it at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew (London). They have an entire area devoted to Hamamelis. The excellent RHS website has an article on it, but it won't allow me to cut and paste. As to why it's flowering now, no idea, perhaps as the seasons are slightly screwed, that may acount for it. I have a rhododendron that wants to flower now, again. Good luck.

Thanks Pamawat.Yes I wondered if the unbelievably bad summer had something to do with it but still cannot understand why it is yellow perhaps all the rain has washed away the orange pigmentation!

My friend had an orange one that did flower yellow and orange in Feb last year. on closer inspection we found that the yellow had come from the base of the root. A throw back to one of it's parents. We removed the new growth and it had it's proper coloured flowers this year.
