Can I grow vegetables in a plot where Bergenias(Elephants Ears) have been grown?

United Kingdom

I have cleared a patch of Bergenias(Elephants Ears) and now want to grow vegetables there. Will the soil be suitable for vegetables once I have cleared out all the tubers and roots? Will the soil contain poisons from the Elephants Ears.

As far as I know, it will be fine. The only thing is, Bergenia's usually grown where it's shady - not sure how good too much shade will be for veggies.

How do I say thanks?
