Hello

I have just purchased a containerised clematis called Elsa Spath which I intend planting into my garden in the next few days. Please can any member tell me if I should prune it at planting time or wait until next year.

Many thanks

This one produces large flowers in late spring on the previous year's wood, and then smaller flowers about 6 weeks later on new wood. Best left without any pruning at all, apart from a bit of a tidy up between flowerings in the growing season.
