am worried, my beautiful Deep secret rose has very poorly looking petals
is this just the way it looks when it has finisehed flowering or is it windburnt? can I move it its only been in a few weeks so very new...
am so upset its such a beautiful rose and smells divine but not in a particuarly windy place. I only water the ground, Im tempted to help stake it for support as its quite a heavy head but have read that this only weakens it
please help

Don't panic Mr. Mannering - this looks like discoloration and balling from rain - assuming you've had some recently, lots of roses don't take kindly to it falling on their flowers/half opened flowers, and this is what happens.

I agree with Bamboo and Mac, it's a shame when growing a good bloom, bruising after heavy rain and hot sun is often the cause.
Cut it off Mookins, put it in a glass of water and enjoy the smell indoors, the next flush will not be so big.

cut it off Mookins it will soon replenish the flower, i worked with roses for 30 years.
IF after a shower of rain you would care to go to the blooms and give them a little shake, this will get rid of most of the moisture from the flower and should make it bloom for longer.

And I don't think the oil tank is affecting anything, well not unless its getting sprayed on the plants when it's topped up;-)

Don't be too upset as if it is a new rose, it will do it more good to pick the flowers this year, gives the roots more chance to settle in. Its very newly planted to expect a good show of big roses.

Don't worry, Moo. I'm sure the above are correct. It happens to me too and makes me want to sob, boo hoo!!!!
