Runner Bean Problem

United Kingdom

I have white patches appearing on the leaves, it makes them look varigated. I have sprayed them with both fungiced and soapy water. I have picked off the affected leaves but it keeps coming back. There is no sign of whitefly or any other pest. I am mystified. the beans are the same as I have always used (Polestar) but I have never seen this before. Any help appreciated

It sounds like some kind of mineral deficiency, possibly Nitrogen. This can often occur if you have grown the same crop on the same site for consecutive years. Try a high nitrogen soluble feed such as Phostrogen, and repeat every 10-14 days.
