No dirt yet, no garden

I’m presently looking for my first home, so I can get out of my deeply shaded apartment building and finally grow something other than philodendrons.
Will I get a patch of dirt before I miss most of the early vegetable planting dates pass me by? This remains to be seen.
Will my distant-past experiences in horticulture, degree in biology, and book-knowledge on vegetable gardening be enough to give me a modestly successful first year? This remains to be seen also.

I'm sure that, with all your background knowledge/experience, you would be able to show us some. Good Luck with your search.
