My old plum tree sends up suckers quite a way from the tree, they appear in the flower beds and are a devil to remove, could even be from a tree thats gone.

Neither has ours Lincs, this old tree is under stress,
although 2/3 broke off in a gale and it has woodworm in the trunk we still get plums!

Be careful with that one Pam, our old one used to be absolutely loaded towards the end of its life, I came home from work and found it split in half one day under the weight, we managed to keep it whilst the plums ripened and then cut it down, it was hollow in the main trunk, it sickened me to think that my grandchildren used to play in the shade of that tree..
Its now the plant feature in between our pond and the flowerbed so you can see how low it is, the hollow had worked that far down....

Thanks Lincs, a friend who's a tree surgeon (useful :0)
Had a look at the old trees, the apples a bit dodgy too but thankfully he's ok with them
