Sweet Peas or not for 2010 ?.

The last two summers I planted (from seed) Sweet peas . They produced a brilliant show of colour , but later on towards late summer they were attacked by greenfly . Overwelmed in fact . I could not keep up with the removal of the blighters !!. So in the end I pulled the sweet peas up and destroyed them . Not wanting to go through that again this year , I don’t know what to plant out instead of sweetpeas . I want climbing flowers , that attract bees , and butterflies throughout the summer . . I’d be very glad of some ideas .

The show of sweet peas was gorgeous. As you like attracting wildlife into the garden it may possibly have reached a balance now so I would give them another go.
Other than that what about nasturtiums, cobea scandens or morning glory.
If you try different types and one succombs you would still be left with a good display

Try a different type as already said, also I spray mine with soapy water which seems to stop it.

What a shame you had to pull them up last year , they looked beautiful,I also use soapy water and it does do the trick.

Your Sweet Peas are beautiful. Pitty you had to get rid of them.
I had very late ones last year and there were no pests on them at all. Maybe the secret is to sew them late. I had flowers from August right up to the end of October.
Some were my own sewings and some were sent to me by a GoY member.
I have a blog on Sweet Peas that I was going to post later in the week. - Great minds think alike :o))
