Disaster for the Damson Tree

The howling gales we experienced recently along with driving rain resulted in more tree damage.I came out one morning to find a huge branch lying across the drive. We managed to cut it in to managable pieces. I would normally have chipped it but I did not like the look of the cut on the tree where it had broken off taking a second smaller branch with it.

I think that dark brown staining might be something not too healthy. If it was only on the bigger branch I might think it had been cracked in previous years but it is on the small branch too.

Sorry to hear of the damage to your tree. I hope the gales have died down now.

Up here in Scotland we are on the Edinburgh Trades when traditionally all the factories and tradesmen took their holidays. As far back as I can remember we were guaranteed rain for a large part of those two weeks. It has rained, thundered, blew gales and in between it has been sunshine and foggy and cloudy - not all at the same time fortunately. The Glasgow Trades start on Friday so lets hope we get some of their traditional heat wave. You know the old saying "a change is as good as a holiday" but not meant to be taken that literally.
