SRGC Event : Glasgow Show at Milngavie 2nd May :
11.30am to 3.30pm in the Town Hall 9miles NW of Glasgow on the A81. Town Hall is opposite the car park for Milngavie Railway Station.
Further to the info above:
Nurseries attending: Ardfearn Hartside Kevock Rumbling Bridge
Tea-room: all the usual goodies including Teas, coffees, rolls, savouries, cakes and THOSE meringues
Seeds: 1000s of surplus packets from the Seed Exchange
Books: there may well be some 2nd hand alpine books available
Plants: our own club plant stall is always excellent
Hope you can manage to the Show which has become a great showcase for many of our top growers in Scotland and North of England. As usual, a warm welcome awaits you in the Dear Green Place ( the Gaelic origins of Glasgow ).

OH and I did enjoy the show very much. There was a lot of lovely exhibits. I got the camera out to let you see what was on show and found I had forgotten to replace the SD card. To see lots of well taken photos google http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=13112.0
The easiest way to get there is by highlighting the link I have given, right click to see a drop down list and choose "go to-------". There is a photo of the food on offer. We sampled that and it tasted every bit as good as it looked. Look out for a gorgeous Gentian auculis, a beautiful paeony and an Androsace septrionalis in full bloom. It did not win a prize but I was thrilled to see it on the show bench entered by the chap who won most points in the show.

Mel it does impress me that some of those exhibits have travelled hundreds of miles up to Scotland especially for the show. Having transported plants fifty miles to a show I know how difficult that is. I guess growing plants to this standard takes a lot of skill and time in caring for their every need. We are so lucky to be able to go along and enjoy them and hope the inspiration turns into a reality when we get our purchases back home. The trade stands were doing a roaring trade which is another bonus if you can get along to a show. They sell plants which you will never see in your local garden centre. The members plant stall also sells plants from the members gardens and you can get advice on how they grow and how to take care of them. Queries on problems with your own plants will always find a listener who has knowledge of who to ask right there in the hall. SRGC is a great organisation whether you are interested in growing huge rhododendrons down to the tiniest plant available. Membership is cheap if you buy on line and that gives better access to the various parts of the website and also the seed exchange. Sorry did not intend to sound like a PR merchant but I am a great fan.

I'm not surprised, Scotsgran. I think raising plants to such a high standard demands skill, patience and dedication. I am very patient, but not quite so skilful or dedicated, so I am full of admiration. Thank you for sharing ?
