Former times, happy days!

I read about David’s encounter with a nasty caravan in his new garden, hiding underneath a beautiful wisteria. His mention of asbestos made me shudder as it was while enjoying life as a junior medical laboratory assistant that I came across asbestos fibres that lurked in my lungs until the early 2000s when I began to experience pleural effusions and was later diagnosed as having Mesothelioma – a terminal cancer. We may have been exposed to asbestos in many situations quite unknowingly in the past but if we do have an encounter with something containing asbestos in the present time we must avoid any contact with it and get official advice.
Below is the laboratory where I worked on the Bacteriology bench on the top left.
We had access to an outside balcony from where we could overlook the Victorian Embankment Gardens and see along the River Thames for quite a distance. See the top of the building with balcony. The laboratory was just behind
Up on the balcony what a poser!

Sorry to hear of your illness. I hope it doesn't disable you too much.
It's nice to look back and remember good times though.

Thank you Tulslady26 and Hywel I am very fortunate to still be alive as when I was diagnosed with Mesothelioma in 2007 the prognosis was 5 - 16 months but I am fighting it all the way since there was no treatment available, only palliative care. My doctor and oncologist were baffled when I told them I am keeping my immune system boosted and said whatever I am doing keep it up!
There is no cure only a long fight........... I try to do what I can and keep resting when necessary, avoid deep breathing (as that would drive the fibres deeper into the tissue as they have hardened into glass like splinters now) and also avoid stress, physical or emotional. Fortunately, I have a very supportive family and we all try to carry on as normally as possible. It is good to know that family, friends and other people are routing for you!
