Fruity

thought id share a few pictures of what i call the orchard, although its mainly a few bought fruit trees in a section of the lawn. The main tree I didnt know what it was and i cut it right back a couple of years ago. This year for the first time since I have been here there is fruit on it..im not even sure what they are..plums of some description, they taste nice though
I have planted six small trees and there was already a pair in which never produces much fruit..
I think growing fruit is so rewarding and pretty simple..

Hi Guy! The fruit trees have done you proud! And you're already eating fruit? Mine haven't even a glimmer of ripening! Although when they do, especially the plums and pears...the dang fox gets them first! He can climb up the trees too, I've seen him, but they are on dwarf rootstocks so they're only about 10 ft or so, but still!
Maybe the two trees that were there when you moved in, haven't got the right pollinators to make them produce fruit? Just a thought! Lovely blog!

Lovely to see and with new trees planted they may help pollinate those that haven`t fruited before.
Pixi have you got an arch you could grow them up, my two plum trees are grown this way and are very productive.

Great to see those fruit trees ... we are thinking of planting an apple tree 'Discovery' on the allotment ... inspired after seeing a pic of one in Karensusan's garden . . . . .

Lovely orchard you have there Skips:)

I have a 'Discovery' apple Shirley! It's a fantastic wee tree, it's on a dwarf root stock, so it's only about 7ft tall! I eat them and cook with them, and they look lovely on the tree...they're like bright red Christmas baubles!

Hijacking your blog, sorry Skips! ....Libet, we looked in a GC today for one, but none of their fruit trees or bushes looked particularly healthy! No 'Discovery' there either ... the search goes on ... :o)

Would the yellow fruit you don't know be green gauges, or south african mirabelle plum, pear trees can take up to 20 years to fruit, it fruits quicker if you have another one close by it. I feed all mine in spring.
