Eggs glorious eggs

well since taking the plunge and getting chickens i have had a regular two and three eggs each day now for a week. Having added three additional hens over the weekend I am expecting that tally to double.

However what I wasnt expecting in this week of the egg was a find not ten feet from the cottage door. I had to look twice as I was planting out a couple of plants in a new extended bit of the cottage garden at the front of the house.

There in a small dip was two eggs, smaller than a hens egg and a different brown coloured. Pheasant obviously. On Sunday I returned to find three and today after popping up for milk at the local shop I returned to find four..

Ive not yet seen the proud mother, neither has Meg, its been very secretive so far on when it sits and lays..

Im just hoping I can keep Meg away when its on there or if they eggs hatch..sound be interesting..

At last I meet the mother..

I'm chuffed to bits for you Skips it's so exciting to be able to keep watch over a new nest , I've found two so far in out garden I'm sure there's more in the wood piles , I'm looking forward to seeing pics of your new arrivals :o) BTW did you know you can freeze egg whites and yokes separately to use at a later date if you have more than you need ..but not together .

last night after putting the chickens in safely I noticed the pheasant on the nest and after it flew as I walked by I counted 8 eggs..

this morning..they have all gone, Im gutted. No sign of broken egg shell, nothing just an empty nest..

Oh Skips I should think you are ,what a shame it's upsetting when that happens ,I wonder what took them squirrels possibly they take birds eggs or it might have been rats ,we actually saw some climbing up a shrub into our home made Dovecote last year the eggs had gone the doves left and never came back ,we set traps after that !!
