I have had several goes at replying to everyone’s answers but I can’t send them for some reason so will hope replying as a new blog will work.
There were some brilliant suggestions, much better than mine! I specially liked Sandra’s Black Magic and Balcony’s Treasure,though all I actually found was long roots… I didn’t understand Kate’s Forrest Gump tjhough – explain please!
The answer I had in mind was that its easy to go on digging much too long and make yourself feel ill – same with eating a box of chocolates…

Kate, that applies perfectly to digging ‘my’ garden because every spade of soil contains a little bit of pottery or glass!
