Chelsea Flower Show

Now I’m probably going to get bombarded with comments but did anyone else not agree with the Best in show award today?
Don’t get me wrong, a lot of hard work gone in to it and some great hard worked flowers grown but I didn’t think the design was all that great. I’ve seen better gardens on here (fact)
I’m not sure if its me being naive, my love for grass based gardens or the fact i’m new to all this gardening that it just didn’t float my boat. Even my wife couldn’t belive that she was seeing the best in show! Thought some of the small gardens designs were fab aswell.
Be interested to here your views.
Be nice as I am new! lol

Glad I am not the only one not to like it Steve. I wonder how long some of these ideas last when planted in a real garden? and if they actually work when faced with the elements? It always strikes me that a lot of their modern ideas wouldnt survive the first frost?

Well agree, didnt seem like anything special to me and quite disliked the rather pretencious rectangles

actually I thought the Kazahana garden (light snow flurry from a cloudless sky) was wonderful, although I dont like this trend to stick table and chairs in all the time or sofas

Yes I agree it was not my cup of tea

So glad a few others are thinking the same as me. Yes don't think they would last that long in the real elements like the frost as you rightly said Drc.
Stevie, I can't remember the Kazahana garden so ill look on website later. Agree with sofa's SHOULDN'T be in the garden. Ludicrous idea if you ask me.
I'm very much like sanbaz in prefer traditional gardens with a touch of new coming through, not the other way round. Would've loved to have seen more of the clematis garden as it looked fab.

Agree with you entirely Steve, and have you noticed that when you see designers own gardens the`re nearly always traditional.

Thats coz there old school and know it works well!!

I went to see the show today - and agree with you... there were so many gardens that deserved to get the award more... will slowly start putting pictures from tomorrow. still watching what I captured today:) and the sofa thing - well it looks nice as you see it, but really not very practical thing for winter... They keep forgetting about huge sheds to put them in winter... do they go to the neigbours gardens? or maybe to the storage warehouses? lol

Totally agree Okasia. Show me a working garden that doesn't have a shed or 2 in it. You have to try and blend it in as much as you can with the garden.

As they say they are 'show gardens', I am sure they are lovely insitu, but not my style, I didn't dislike the Best in Show one, but only saw it on the tv. I would much prefer to see lots more colour in a garden, I like real gardens much more like the ones we have on GOY. these are proper working gardens not show pieces. Keep up the good work with your gardening guys who needs a gold medal anyway? You get just as much pleasure from weeding and digging, cutting and planting as the overpaid presenters and garden planners. I always wonder if they ever get their hands dirty, think they must but they always seem so well groomed, not like me in my dirty gardening trousers and broken fingernails and cracked knuckles lol I wouldn't swap with them for anything!! Well maybe their pots of money might just sway me LOL :O) and maybe some of their planning talents even bigger giggles. Good luck with the gardening.
