I have to agree with Alice. Popped into local GC today for 2 bags of grit for top dressing and was confronted with a huge Christmas display, it has taken over from the conservatory furniture/paintings/dried flowers and I don't want to see it yet ! How on earth do parents explain to their children that it's months away ? : o ))

I love your Acer. It has nice shaped leaves, and they're a wonderful colour now.
There should be a way of stopping shops puting Christmas trees etc until Nov at the earliest. It's all down to greed. Greedy shop keepers, and greedy people wanting it all NOW. They miss out on the suspense and resulting excitement when it eventually comes.

Thank you for you kind comments. I love the colours on my Acer I have had it for 7 years and it has been in the same pot and the same spot it must be happy. I top it up with compost once a year and give it a good feed every now and then.
I went to the market last friday and their was Christmas wreaths on the flower stall. They had Arbutus berries on them they would not survive till Christmas it’s so sad that Christmas has become so commercial. Shops should not put any thing out until after November 5th .I think GC's are amongst the worst offenders for putting out displays too early like you, say children just don’t understand.

I am still visiting my daughter in Somerset. We have had summer, a monsoon, winter and autumn winds and back to summer today and all in the space of one week. After a night of howling gales and lashing rain my grandaughter (aged 4) said it had been raining leaves all night. LOL. We went collecting chestnuts at Tintinhull NT garden last weekend as it was so sunny. It is no longer PC to play conkers apparently so we had to collect enough to make a necklace instead. The colours are quite slow to change this year but it is lovely to see a woodland ranging through all the autumn shades. Your acer looks lovely. I agree with all the comments about Christmas and the GC's.

Scotsgran~ Hope you are having a wonderful time with your daughter and family. The weather has certainly been through some changes over the past week. Love the conker necklace idea fab! Conkers are good for keeping spiders out of the house to I must go and get some ....(((don't like eight legged creepers! )))lol.

I was not aware that conkers kept out spiders. I can see us going conker hunting again this weekend if it is dry. Thank you for the tip.

I've just heard a lady on the radio saying it didn't work for her ...one spider sitting on top of the conker ... lol ! Always works for my Mum though.
