Susie Greenfingers???

Well I have joined a gardening website, and I am calling myself Susie Greenfingers and I feel like a bit of a fraud. I have always been rubbish at gardening, I just hack back the bushes, mow the lawn and clean up the bbq, thats the extent of it.
My Mum on the other hand LOVED her garden, postage stamp that it is.It really is nothing to look at, but it was hers. She was always unconventional, my Mum, and she has spent many happy summers in the garden cultivating the plants she loved. And my Mum loved all her plants, some of them are even weeds, but she would say"it’s such a pretty weed, dont dig it up!"
No one has done much work in the garden since Mum was diagnosed with Cancer, too many other things on our minds, but she missed it. The week she died, she pruned her Roses, and she was soo happy that they had flowered for her.
Now the responsibility of my Mums garden rests on me, and I have to live up to that. It is in such a mess, but I cant just tear it apart and start again, most of the flowers have sentimental value, they just need organising in a more co-herant way.
I want to make the garden a haven for me and my daughter to sit in during the summer months,to find some peace and remember.
So here I am, looking for advice that my Mum should be giving me, its her garden…. and its her name I will use for this site.. Susie…My Mum with Greenfingers

welcome to goy and i found your blog very moving. remember a weed is a plant in the wrong place. so if your mum cultivated it, it wasnt a weed. the only advice i will give is enjoy the plants she did and think of her with fondness.

Hello Susiegreenfingers, Welcome to the wonderful world of gardening. There are so many things in my garden that reminds me of my Mum & Dad. Why not plant a shrub or plant called Susie. My Mum was Louise & I planted an Azalia called Louise. There are crocus named Remembrance & I have put those where my little dogs are buried. Good Luck & enjoy. PamD.

Welcome to GoY.
I have plants which I brought from my mother's garden after she died. One or two didn't survive the transplant, but others such as pieris and miniature roses are doing well, nine years later.

Do your best to tend your mother's plants, but don't be too critical of yourself if some don't flourish. Eventually, you'll want to make changes to the garden, and that's okay too.
Gardens are ever-changing. They never stay exactly the same. That's part of the fun. :o)

Welcome to GoY Susie. Sorry to hear of your recent bereavement. It's nice you're keeping your mum's plants and I'm glad to hear you're going to re organize them. I think she might have liked that.
