'Absolute drought' over

An absoloute drought is defined as a period with no measurable rainfall lasting at least 15 days. Yesterday 0.5mm of rain fell, just enough to wet the ground and enough to end a run of 29 days with no rain, making it our longest absolute drought for more than 12 years. The signs of drought are all around, brown grass and some rather early (and pretty stunning) autumn colours, plus of course the watering can has been out most days!
If the medium-range forecast comes off then the next week or 2 is looking quite wet at times, over 50mm of rain is predicted in this period. 50mm is a typical monthly total. We need it!

We had a little shower yesterday afternoon but it didn`t last and dried out within minutes hosepipe is going to have to come out again.

We had 1mm of rain overnight last night - the first for about 4 weeks - I've been watering with a hose for the last 10 days. Rain is forecast, though - tomorrow for three days!

Rain 'in the air' yesterday but none landed on the ground. Can't remember when we last had proper rain in this corner of Kent - it must be weeks now. Water butt emptied ages ago and I'm on a water meter! Still recycling washing up and shower water :)

hmm, just seen a forecast and it looks to me as if we (down in the e/se) will see very little rain over the next week. Perhaps some tues/weds but not more than a couple of mm's and then its back to high pressure.

Well, almost at the end of October and this has now been our driest on my records since moving here (1996) and by some way. Just 18mm has fallen, compared to the average of around 60mm.

We've had 54mm in the last two weeks. Not bad - the garden needed it!

I agree with you, we need rain, We went away in August, being so busy getting on with things, only realised that we have not had rain for more than a month, I had to water the garden in the end. I watered for 4 days, then guess what? the rain came yesterday. Looking forward to more rain as I like to put new plants in, in the autumn.
