Amazingly quick, weemama - your method must be working - I am not allowed to grow seeds indoors, I get told that the greenhouse is where they belong! Next purchase on my list is a heated propagator, because at the moment I only keep the greenhouse frost-free, so it's not warm enough for seeds yet. How will you manage 20 little Geranium plants AND 750 baby Begonias in your kitchen? Plus the other seedlings too, because I bet you won't stop now....lol I hope it's big enough for your indoor Nursery!

i have just been sorting through the many packets of seeds that i have been purchasing - without his knowledge - he is too busy watching sport at the moment to notice! lol i too only have a frost free greenhouse which is currently housing all of my geraniaum, agaves ect - so not much room for seeds and too cold i think i may also invest in some probergators i did have some a couple of years ago that you can put above the radiator - but too be honest i did'nt find them too effective! can either of you reccomend what sort to buy?

You need to get one with a thermostat, so you can grow different seeds to their requirements, I am going to look at my 'Which' gardening magazine for their recommended 'Best Buys', I'll let you know which they say to get.

Thought I would join in the conversation, for Christmas I bought my self a `Super Seven Propagator` onlne from this website http://www.greenhousepeople.co.uk it cost me £31, but I think it will be really useful, it has 7 small seed trays that fit on a heated tray that is perfect for sitting on a windowsill (no good for you Spritzhenry!)
It might be worth taking a look at the site.
I have already sowed some sweet peas and some lobellia, not sure if I`m too early with the lobelia, but I know it is very slow growing so thought I would give it a try.

Ah, Andrea, but helpful husband has fitted a double socket into the greenhouse, so one is being used now for the fan heater and the other is empty awaiting the purchase of my new propagator (when I get it)...Forward planning!!!! :-)

Wish my husband was so helpful! And come to think of it I wish I had electricity to my greenhouse....mmmm...must work on it!

Ditto !!! my hubby is a lovely lovely man but him and DIY seem to be allergic to each other

While not wishing to stir up a battle of the sexes, there is nothing to stop any of our lady gardeners attending a course and learning how to install a double socket in a greenhouse. In return for some washing-up perhaps?

Haven't you heard of dishwashers, Andrew? - and Naughty, Naughty, you mustn't play with electricity unless you have a PROPER electrician these days....

What a bright spark you are Spritz! Now, I must say that a work colleague's husband installed electricity to his greenhouse in Oct 2006 and in May 2007 nearly died due to a shock - not from the electricity per se- but from the HUGE bill. He worked out that his heated greenhouse had used nearly £500 worth! Surely the most expensive seed propagation in the country! I'll stick to the candles in
clay pots method!

rofl@Andrew You are quite right and some of us lady gardeners are more than capable of installing a double socket. However the problem is usually gaining access to the power tools (read toys for the boys) which are locked up, chained, barricaded, protected by moats filled with piranha to keep all lesser mortals (read female) away! ;o )

Maple, there can't be many who have arrived home from work to find a note stuck to a lamp saying "bulb needs changed" - and our lightbulbs aren't locked in a safe and piranha-protected! My wife does have bright ideas, tho . One day last summer she went out and spent £160 on tubs and plants for the front doorstep (Gasp! Horror!). The rest of us were so busy in the back garden that we had forgotten about the front and, as she very rightly said, first appearances really count, bless her (kiss, kiss), lol!
