My brain works

After waking up very early (not happy as i have a night shift tonight) i decided to use this peaceful time of the day to think about what i’m goinig to do with the horrible little gravel patch that hurts my eyes every time i open the back door. Ornamental grass!. How i came up with this idea was by pure accdent but needless to say after making this decision the other decision is which one?!. There are so many.
I have some time off work next week so i will maybe start work then. I shall upload photos of my progress.

Have a lovely day
Nik

Thanks Nick. You have a lovely day too. I don't know much about grasses so it will be interesting to see the ones you choose.

I have seen an example of a garden corner with ornamental grasses that worked so well. It had Black mondo grass (Ophiopogon planiscapus ‘Nigrescens’). This is in fact not a grass but belongs to the lily family and has black-purple leaves, with lilac flowers. In amongst the grass was the silvery foliage of the lambs' ears plant and cyclamen.

This is a great idea I love grasses, so many to choose from, I have some of the black grass that Bernieh speaks of, it does look good (at the front - as it is low growing) can be used to create good contrast with lighter plants/grasses. Some of my favs are Imperata Cylindrica Rubra 'Japanese blood grass' and Pennisetums which have great flowers. There are some great Sedges too, some of which are evergreen (well everwhatevercolourtheyare), I've got some which has curly at the tips (Carex buchananii - bronzy colour about 80cm), another interesting one is red hook segde. Anyway I'll shut up now, good luck with your search looking forward to seeing your progress.
