What could it be

I stood beneath a nest box not knowing what to see, the box appeared so empty no residents for me. Blooming heck and ecky thump i noticed from within, a scratching noise which did persist and by gum what a din. What could it be so late as this i thought with utter glee, i know i thought i,ll ask my friends on GOY maybe they can advise me. Their you go i,m still wondering. Acers doing fine , 2 weeks to go before chilling them. Down to one Rose cutting now but it looks good. 3 regal pelargonium cuttings taken but early days for them yet. Fuchsia plants brought into greenhouse determined to protect as many plants as pos this winter. Bathroom cabinet and glass shelves installed. Shed nice and cosy, heating fab , could,nt get Muffin out of it yesterday. Blinking food stocks went down when he entered . Had to make emergency chilling accommodation for Acer seeds as my sisters fridge gave up the ghost Tuesday. Great week though but i,m missing my number one (Elizabeth) number two (Rose) and number three (Tricky Sticky) (LoL). Blinking Tiny walking around my keyboard ,have to get him downstairs . Take care all enjoy Tony

You've been busy, Tony...
Scratching noise inside a box ?
Much too small to fit a fox ...
Creature needs a tiny house ..
Maybe it could be a mouse ?
Or could the sound be from a bat ?
Tell me what you think of that ... :o)

Muffin is not daft, a nice warm shed or a damp place outside, no contest there Tony, hope you do find out what is in the nestbox..
Fingers xx we all have better luck with our plants this year...

Hi Terra Ho yes it could have been a bat, its just i never thought of that. I wonder if it was the mouse that made that funney noise, on second thoughts as a little mouse it may have had no toys. Take care enjoy Tony

Nice to see you back Tony.I love your little poems.I hope Stickie didn't mind being no. 3. Elizabeth is very busy at the moment and hasn't had a lot of time for goy and I haven't been on it much as my grandaughter (nearly 15) was taken into hospital with an illness that the doctors are worried about , but cannot find out what it is.So it has been a worrying time for all of us.Is your box a big one, would it house baby squirrels, because there is a baby in one of our larger boxes.I also have read ,that certain breeds of birds all cuddle up together in a box over winter, but it hasn't been really cold yet.So stickie, you are breaking out into verse as well. Is there no end to yours and Tony's talents! Can't you take a peep into the box when you hear the noise Tony.

Hi Stickie It cannot be a mole it could,nt go through that hole nor could it be a squirrel with a tummey like a barrel. Alas its quiet now, no sound can be detected the latest is i think its now defected. Your guess is as good as my own, but i would like to think it was a small bird. Take care enjoy Tony

Hi Rose Will not contact Elizabeth at present as i am aware she as you say is busy. If its what i think then i sincerely wish her good fortune. Hope your grandaughters health improves also Rose. 15 is an age that doctors can treat patients with good results and i hope she is recovering. Yes we have noticed many baby squirrels but i am of the mind that it was a small bird , possibley a mouse. My 5 boxes were all used this year Rose so may be one resident has decided to take a last look. Rose cutting seems ok and i have taken (hardwood cuttings)one Mahonia,3 polycanthus, and 3 pelargonium cuttings for next year. My good lady does,nt want me to grow toms next year( we eat so many the local store can just about keep up with us) so its plants all the way. Blooming heck Rose i dare not risk peeping in any more holes as Tiny just avoided my nose with his beak when i checked his seed feeder. Blooming beak like an african grey he has(LoL). Take care enjoy NUMBER ONE (LoL) Tony

Thanks Stickie and Tony for your best wishes. We found out today that at last she is going to have the camera into her tummy test tomorrow ,so we might know whats wrong with her soon. She has had this problem for such a long time now.I told Elizabeth that you were back so you might be hearing from her.I don't think I will be no. 1 for long,Tony.I'm pleased your cuttings are doing well.Have you tried my trench method yet as this is the perfect time to do it.

Hi Rose Glad to hear your grandaughter is being looked after and hope the findings will lead to her permenant cure. Thankyou for getting in touch with Elizabeth Rose, i didnt want to disturb her if the problem is sensitive, but i do hope she realizes that. Sorry Rose your a temporary number one, just like an itsy bitsy one and one tenth (LoL). I have tried one Rose cutting your way Rose but i didnt have any more stems to go further. I am pleased with the one though and thank you for the advice. I am try ing Polycanthus cuttings also so if everything is fine we may have to move house and home to accomodate them all. take care Rose and i hope the young lady improves rapidley Tony

Hello Tony! I've knitted you a little ditty! Ahem...
"Bats flying by and up in attics,
In your bird box they've been hiding,
Bats are always up to antics,
Up to now, just no one knew...
That bats, not birds, were in said bird box,
Bats, like birds, love boxes too.
So when you're building your new bird box,
Just think about what's gone before,
That bats and birds both love their boxes,
You just make sure you build some more!
So, birds and bats can live together,
One upside down, hung from the ceiling,
One right side up, sat on the floor!"
