NGS open day went well-ish

the rain forecast to start at 11am, began early. So I hoped that being forecast to stop about 4, it would stop earlier too.
The rain started about 9.30, this was taken from under our pergola that really got some use in the morning. The tables with the brollies got some use later in the day.
It was a bit too wet to even consider opening the gate for the die hards who turn up early. The river going out of the gate created another waterfall.
But then it stopped raining and my lily’s, late flowering this year hadn’t suffered by the deluge.
The flowers are a good 8" across and in the evening smell divine.
Even some of my Clems were either flowering late or having a second flush and they looked lovely for the visitors to see.
Thankfully the field didn’t suffer at all from dozen or so cars that parked in it.
We had about 30 visitors in all, most had refreshments (i’m glad to say, as I had catered for about 100 just incase, as the coverage on the local tv and newspaper had done us proud, but I have found homes for some, the rest are in the freezers until I find somewhere for them to go. But I don’t need the space for veg grown this year, as there isn’t any)
The sun eventually came out about 2.30 which brought more visitors. We did have about 6 die hards during the rain and thankfully we had umbrellas to lend out. :-)
We have raised just under £600 this year, about £350 less than last year, but with all the bad weather we’ve had, I’m surprised we had as many visitiors as we have had. On the whole we and all our volunteers had a good time on all our open days. And there was little time to sit around drinking coffee and nattering.

Well done from me too 2ndhand! Those first pics show such a deluge, your heart must have sank. Gorgeous lilies and yes it's seems to have been a year for them......I can see a glimpse of a well manicured hedge too, thank goodness the sun came out at last and saved the day.....:0))

Actually I must admit, I don't mins about the weather. It has worked marvellously for somethings but not others. But I'm just going with the flow, pardon the pun. :-)

Ha, ha........yes you're right there, so much has done really well this year with the extra rain in the early summer, and grown so tall! We live right next to our village church and I can hear the drone of the drainage truck pumping out water from under the church as I type......:0(((

You have still done well, I suspect a lot of charitable events have suffered this year, lots of our local ones were either postponed or cancelled altogether, I do like your beautiful lilies....

I believe that none of our gardens were cancelled this year, but there are very few of us in our county. I think there is 12 and they're reducing for next years book. But I do know numbers are down drastically on the previous years.

Well done that's still a good amount in that weather. It must have been hard for you though usually these are such busy, happy days, full of chat and interest.
Sadly I havent been to one open garden this year as the weather has been so awful, today its like November here cold wet and windy.
