Ultimate Garden?

How’s this for one-up-man-ship? Yesterday I went to a Buckingham Palace Garden Party.
It was held to celebrate the centenary of the Red Cross and, as I am a volunteer fundraiser with the Berkshire Branch Open Gardens scheme, I got an invite. So I hired a morning suit from Moss Bros, put on a tie for the first time in years, debated whether to wear shoes or wellies (in the end I thought wellies would look a bit silly but not as silly as some ladies in open sandals in all that mud) and took a large umbrella.
Despite the weather, the herbaceous border looked stunning, the roses didn’t have a black spot between them and there were lots of specimen trees (some quite rare) and a large lake with cascade. For security reasons, cameras weren’t allowed in the grounds so sadly I have no photos of the day.

What a fabulous honour Andrew! Well done! Seeing you are not allowed to take photos, wouldn't you think they would give you a 'CD of your day with some nice shots of the garden at BP'. I'd happily spend some of my tax on that for you!!

Glad you had a good day Andrew. We fell in love with the beautiful china, the food and catering venue as well as the spectacular garden when we were invited to a Royal household.

No spritz, it was Charles, Camilla and Princess Alexandra. Saw the latter briefly through a haze of umbrellas but I was much more interested in the plants :-)

Congratulations Andrew. Pity you weren't allowed to take any photographs. They would have been interesting. Volunteering to do something of benefit to others is really worthwhile.
