North Wales - Stockton Bury

The last garden on our trip was Stockton Bury near Leominster in Herefordshire.
We drove through more torrential rain to get there but after a cake and cup of coffee, the rain eased and we were able to see the garden in relative dry. This is another plantsman’s dream, with rare plants rubbing shoulders with more common ones and the whole laid out in a series of areas and enclosures. It was one of those gardens that have evolved over the years, with extra bits being added from the neighbouring farmland, until now it covers four acres.
This is an example of the dense planting in many areas
While other parts had a more formal feel
At the far end was a natural looking water feature – this is the newest section but still looks as if it has been there for decades
Among the plants that caught my eye was this scarlet clover, basking on a rock
Plus this rare berberis, B. temolaica

Sticki - they're open Wednesdays to Sundays, plus Bank Holiday Monday's 12 noon to 5pm. Their website is www.stocktonbury.co.uk. I forgot to mention, there's also a small Plant Sales area :-)

It looks a lovely relaxing garden, I like the walled garden but the area around the pool is grand, as you say very natural looking...
