Oxford Botanic Garden - Part 2

This is a continuation of my visit to Oxford Botanic Garden
Leaving the walled section, you head towards the river
On either side of the path is a rockery
Geranium sessiliflorum would be good for my foliage garden
And another good geranuim, G. pelargoniflorum
This cracking little plant, lewisia cotyledon ‘Sunset Strain’, was tucked into a pocket
While daphne alpina grew happily on the top of the rockery
There are also areas to provide appropriate conditions for plants, like the pond
A healthy clump of smilacena racemosa, now called maianthemum racemosum (they haven’t changed their label yet)
A couple of trees provided shade for a woodland area
And an open area of sandy soil looked to be under development
There were several paeonies in flower just now, including P. peregrina
While pawlonia tomentosa won the prize for best tree on this visit
I didn’t have time to look at the vegetable area or the greenhouses, and the exhibition room was closed. I’ll have to go back again soon.

Theres plenty to hold your interest there Andrew, and I especially liked those geraniums.

Lovely photos and write up, Andrew. I was there two years ago in June. I remember the alpine gardens well. It was also the first time I saw the giant Amazonian water lily. I see that you have caught the Trilliums again :)
