Planted out a very healthy Heuchera last week, only to find today, there were large holes in the leaves, knew it was not vine weevil, so inspected the plant nothing visible, decided to look on the back of the leaves, and this is what I found………
A very acrobatic caterpillar………a month ago I picked off another Heuchera a fat lime green caterpillar, where on earth are these blighters coming from?

At last I've found out what the words 'inch worm' mean. It turns into one of those clever small brown moths that disapear on tree bark with their protective camoflage. Shame it ate your Heuchera leaves DD. I have something that looks like Rust on one of my recently purchased Heucheras. Gone all floppy and sick looking.....might return to GC if I can find the till receipt.

Hi San good to see you, how are you feeling now? on the road to recovery I do hope so......
Dorjac thanks for letting me know, really sorry I killed it now, thought it was one of those mean critters.
Do Heucheras get rust? well obviously yes, they do, good luck with getting another.

No holes on my heuchera but one last year wilted and I found some little white grubs in the pot. I popped them into the bird feeder and friendly robin ate them :)
25 Apr, 2012
Gee that sound like Vine Weevil grubs....
25 Apr, 2012
I wondered about that, DD2, and checked out a couple of other nearby potted plants but that seemed to be the only one affected, thank goodness. I managed to take some cuttings from it too :)
25 Apr, 2012
Gee we have had the grubs and the weevils in some pots but not others, think it came in the compost, lucky to get some cuttings....

I think they are called loopers. Are they coming from trees above?
