Air Plant????

I was so surprised when my air plant? produced this flower -
First the large pink “flower” came out and then around each edge a purple flower appeared. As each purple one died another came out further along!!
I was so amazed – I’ve had this plant for about 10 years and this is the first time its done this – can anyone tell me what it is?? and is it really an air plant – it gets misted about once a month…

Very interesting..sure is hard to know..it is such a pretty color...I hope someone can give you and answer.

I believe it's a type of bromeliad. Perhaps someone will name it.
I also think it dies after flowering. ( sorry about that )

Very interesting and beautiful plant...It's Tillandsia cyanea. From the Bromeliad family...Hywel, you are right...

Oh no I didnt know it would die - what a shame :-((( still its got some babies on it so I should be able to pot them up!!

Hi...I don't think this is an airplant Geniusscruffy.....I've had one before, planted conventionally in a pot...sorry I don't know the name.......it is very pretty though :))
