Cotoneaster Cornubia

No photos as yet, but maybe in the Spring. Today I took cuttings from a friends Cotoneaster Cornubia; it has been spectacular this winter, hung with so many bright red bunches of berries, just beautiful for Christmas. I’ve taken so many cuttings and are hoping to plant them when rooted by the back wall of my garden which faces west. I hope to train them against the wall, and let them grow to a good height.
Also, I’ve decided to cut down the Robinia Frisia which is down there and usually ends up with snapped branches at the end of winter as the wood is so brittle.
Roll on Spring…..:))

Good luck with the cuttings Janey , fabulous bright red bunches of natural Christmas decorations to cheer you up in the winter , we've had a wet day here also one of those annoying days when you expected a delivery and it doesn't turn up :o(

Hi Janey
I grow this , if training on to the wall , lean the cutting towards the wall at a slight angle it helps it to stay on the wall if not using wires, as planting upright and too close to the wall it has a tenancy to fall forward if we have any snow.
Robinia Frisia yes mine does the same but it looks stunning in the summer

Hi Gee....no wet and cold here, bet Millie hates it like Lottie does, though she's always ready for a ball game whatever the weather. Enjoy your new plant.....:))
Thanks Amy.....I've potted them up and stood the pots by the greenhouse...fingers crossed.
Oh I hate that, when your waiting all day.....hope it comes tomorrow, that's if your in of course!
Checked mine again Gnarly and it's not the Frisia just the pseudocacia, so can get to be quite a giant. I've had it lopped twice and those spines are lethal so it's time for it to go.
I shall heed your advice on the planting of the cuttings, they'll be a great backdrop to the garden eventually....:))

Its a fabulous cotneaster - best of luck with the cuttings. Shame about the acacia though, they are so lovely. I didn't know they were brittle - rules them out for here then!

Cotoneasters are fabulous in the winter aren't they? I tried to grow Rob. fris. Once, but the poor thing has no chance at all in Scottish winds! Actually, I'm pretty sure it was dead when I bought it, but it was a poor choice for my garden. Gorgeous tree though. I'd like to add a Laburnum this year..they are a lot tougher of course...but its getting harder to find a space now!

Thanks Sandra....me too...:))
The pseudocacia really is a massive tree Stera, the other year it had it's first flowers, lovely White wisteria type pea flowers.....just too big for my garden.....
I bought mine Karen as the Frisia but it was actually just the basic parkland pseudocacia.....
Yes a laburnum would be gorgeous, they are spectacular!
Even though I find my Laburnocytisus interesting, it doesn't have the beauty of the Laburnum golden chain or the scent.....

One I don't know Janey, off to look it up...... we still have loads of berries left, wonder if they will be gone by the end of the week, very cold here, possibility of snow!!

Snow here today Karen...the horizontal type as it's been very windy too. I spent all yesterday afternoon cutting down ivy to a height I can control easily, I hadn't realised it was so deep. It's good to see the old red brick Walls resurfacing once again......:))
Think you will like it Dd. Very open growth habit and stunning with those berries. Snow here today....
Gosh those birds were hungry Gnarly....winter is definitely here now....

Good luck with your cuttings Janey !
I've got a cornubia that has been trained into a little standard tree. It was always full of berries but since I moved it to a different place, the birds eat them all :(

Sorry for the late reply Hywel, my computer etc has been out of action, but hopefully I'm back on track again....
I must have a look at your pictures because I 'm sure I remember photos of your tree a few years ago and what a picture it was!

Sounds like you've had a productive day, Janey, and perhaps dry weather? Dry here too today but everywhere I try to walk with Millie is muddy and waterlogged. I did manage to get a newly purchased plant potted up but then I retreated indoors :) Hope your cuttings do well for you.
