Dax is recovering

Very happy to tell you that Dax is now moving around, although a bit wobbly on his back legs. His tail still flops to one side and his ears are not often standing up.
He does not appear to be in pain although he just does not look happy !
Taking a daily steroid tablet which seems to have boosted his appetite. He seems ravenous and is eating at least double to what he used to eat before his accident ,which the vet said is due to the tablets.
He is showing an interest in his toys though, and I feel sure that it is a case of a slow but good recovery.
He has forgotten some of the things he had previously learned ,and after three days shut in a cage at the vet’s,he thinks it is the place to make a mess !! He also prefers the carpets to the garden.
He learned good habits very easily when he was just a few weeks old and I am sure we will be able to teach him again.
When I feel a bit cross when Dax makes a mess,I have to remind myself of just how badly I felt when he was hurt.
Thank you all for your support !!I really needed it because my husband is a bit of a pessimist and was telling me to be prepared to lose him !!Your messages really helped me.

So glad Dax is much better now..maybe his accident affected his control of his bodily functions for now,or delayed reaction to shock..he will get there again,I'm sure..:o)Your vet may be able to advise you..

He's gorgeous! Glad he's on the mend. It will just take time for him to make a full recovery, but he will get there! He's already done so well.

Its a relief to know he is getting better, the steroids do make them eat and drink more so of course he is going to need to go more, have you tried the puppy training mats Vera, he's only a little fella so they'll be ok for him, its gotta be worth trying and will at least save your carpets...

Glad to see Dax looking so well...Hope he recovers fully soon

Same here. A large litter tray may help, so he learns it
smells cleaner. Pebble trays are about £5 at the GCs.
He is really just a very sick baby.

Marvellous news, so glad little Dax is on the mend. It must be frustrating for such a young dog to not be able to interact spontaneously with the world about him but before long he will be his 'old' self again I am sure. It isn't surprising he is having 'accidents' considering what he has been through, no doubt they will tail off too as he recovers. Keep up the good work, both of you!
