Bag gardens,
you will need hessian sacks
a tin with top and bottom cut out
a supply of small stones/shingle
Place a small layer of stones in the bottom of the sack to spread base, rolling down the sides of the sack, place the tin in the centre and fill the tin with stones, place a mixture of 2 parts soil and one part compost around the tin.
Raise the tin level with the top of the stones anf fill with more stones and surround with soil compost mixture repeat till you have a full sack with a column of stones in the centre surrounded by soil. Water down the column of stones will filter out right down the sack. Cut small holes in the sack where you wish to plant your seedlings and also plant around the top. Two or three canes placed around the sack will hold your vertical garden steady, and the hessian will blend harmoniously with the plants. I thought this was a neat idea,

I'm sure Monty Don showed something similiar on his around the world programme.
It's a fantastic way to display, say tender plants from far off exotic places.
