Seedlings

These are some of my seedlings that are going in my garden soon. I have more that I’ve saved for family and friends. Then there are those that are really slow to germinate and others that are in the fridge…

And in another part of the house:

Mandevilla (red)

“Rothmannia Capensis” Cape Gardenia

And my “Clerodendrum Ugandese” that I’m really excited about!!!

Bjs sent me these seeds in September and two of them have germinated so far…“Paeonia Sufruticosa” THE ROCK

You are doing well with all those seedlings already. It reminds me of the first time i grew seeds.I had millions. I completely missed the fact that if there were 150 seeds in a packet and I sowed all of them I would have 150 plants. I used lots of packets. I hope your weather is good enough to plant out soon as they look ready to go. Well done. I have been a bit busy but will get around to making your cake soon.

I've sown 'Cupani' Sweet Peas too, Alex, they're a lovely two-tone mauve/lilac aren't they? I shall need to find out what Butterfly flower is! : o )

Scotsgran,
It seems I went down the same road as you!!! ;o)
Those in the picture are the ones I am keeping....I have others that I have saves for family and friends. We usually plant our seedlings out in April, unless Mother Nature decides to play games with me...
Wait a little longer on the cake Scotsgran, I'm on a diet!!!
Another reason I bought so many is that most of them are not available here as plants.

Shirley,
Besides having a beautiful color, I went for "Cupani" because it is suppose to be very fragrant!!!
The same goes for "Black Night".
Butterly flower is also called "Poor Man's Orchid" hope that helps.

You have a lovely lot growing there. I wasn't going to sew any seeds this year, but after seeing yours I am changing my mind lol. Good luck ! I hope you'll show photos of them all in bloom soon :))

'Cupani' are very fragrant, Alex, not a tall variety, perfect for a small vase in the house!

Alexandramc, do you live along the coast or beach? Just wandering as I do and about to start a garden.

20 May, 2011

Sixpence...I live very near the beach. The only trouble I have is with certain fruit trees, everything else grows fine. How close to the beach is your house?

20 May, 2011

Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, I cannot provide you with the distance in metres but it is approximately, three minutes from the shoreline. I do experience a heavy sea spray at high tide and we have a heavy salt content along the coastline.

24 May, 2011

I think I live a little closer to the sea. Your garden will be fine then.

25 May, 2011

Thanks, Alexandramou.

Hi,

Could you please tell me how to grow up Rothmannia? Did you put seeds into a fridge? How long does it germinate? Which kind of soil?

Another matter: do you know how to grow up Baumontia out of the seed?

Regards,
Ewa
