Alexandramou:
The purple flowered tree is a Jacaranda mimosifolia. We have millions here in San Diego...some have finished blooming and other are still in full bloom.
2 Jun, 2012
If you can't be photogenic at 16 , when can you be ?
2 Jun, 2012
That's what I wanted to hear Delonix. Now I can grow one in my garden.
2 Jun, 2012
Driad, my daughter's best friends are the mirror and the camera...lol

Alexandramou:
Do you need seeds? I have seed pods from the huge tree in my front yard.
Jacarandas are very tender when young, however, when they are large, they're really tough and hardy (in a subtropical and tropical climate: thought I would clarify this).
3 Jun, 2012
Oh, seeds would be nice. Thanks.
I will keep it in a pot the first year....or two. Then plant it in the garden.
As long as we don't have a winter like this past one I think it will do fine outside even when young.
I noticed three while walking in town.....I wonder how many are planted on Corfu.
3 Jun, 2012
Now, I need to go into the yard and pick up seed pods! lol!
Yes, little Jacaranda seedlings don't like temps down to freezing...when the trees are mature...they are hardy 25ºF/ -3.8ºC. or even slightly lower for a brief period of time with some tip die-back.
Did you notice any cold damage on the trees there in Corfu?
Is Jacaranda widely planted as a street tree there?
4 Jun, 2012
I will put them inside along with my Plumeria's during winter.
I'm in town again tomorrow so I will have a look at how many and what condition the Jacaranda trees are in. It's not widely planted as a street tree. I only counted three when I was taking the pics.
5 Jun, 2012
Yes, the seedlings will most likely do better indoor for the first year.
I wish I could show you the millions of Jacaranda trees here in San Diego! There's still so many blooming, although, some are at the end of their bloom cycle, already.
I'll have to get more Jacaranda pics before they stop blooming. Although, in late summer the trees have a less bloom cycle.

Wonderful, beautiful blog Alex! I wonder if anyone has ever tried growing a Bonsai Jacaranda? Did your seeds germinate? I might ask Delonix for some myself . . . bit cheeky though. :)
18 Jul, 2012
Btw Happy Birthday for yesterday, and I've done a little blog for you.
18 Jul, 2012
Glad you enjoyed the blog Sheilabub. I haven't sowed Jacaranda seeds yet...(something got in the way of my plans). I really should go pick up some seeds and a cutting.
Thank you for your birthday wishes. How did you know?
I will have a look at the blog.

Thank you Dorjac. I think every place on earth has beauty, we just need to take time to look. I'm glad you enjoyed it. ;o)

We have a blue sky here in Essex England today and a temperature in the shade of 30=87f. Not such good scenery here in suburbia. The garden looks great here, but, too hot to sit out there.
18 Aug, 2012
Dorjac:
That 30ºC (87ºF) sounds so comfortable! It's been more than two weeks of very humid 35ºC (95ºF) to 40ºC (104ºF) temps here in inland San Diego, CA. :>)
18 Aug, 2012
Alexandramou:
Yes, I'm still complaining about this sweltering heat! LOL! :>)
I know you what it feels like because you have the same temps.

Just seen your pics of Corfu Alexandramou. Brings back wonderful memories for me. We have been there several times, but last time was 2009 for our 50th wedding anniversary. I love the Jacaranda (purple), well guess that is what it is. They are so spectacular. I can't remember what the tree is in the second pic - theone you say smells soooo nice! Have you found it's name yet?
We have snow here again at the moment! This time last year it was warm and sunny!!!!
23 Mar, 2013
Glad you like the pics Shirl. Never found out the name of the tree that smells soooo nice.
Heard you guys are having bad weather. Hope spring comes your way soon. ;o)
23 Mar, 2013
Yes lots of snow, though not as bed here as in other parts of U.K. Wet and slushy here mostly except on the hills, - some drifting there - so my daughter said! Come on Spring!!

Great blog Alexandra the tree with the clusters of white flowers is fantastic the scent is beautiful , there are loads of them in Archaravi and the bees love them. Roy.
25 Sep, 2013
I love the Jacaranda best of all, I wish we could grow them here. Though they would be a bit big for normal gardens!
I remember seeing them all along one of the streets in Cyprus one year we were there & I can't remember where it was!!
25 Sep, 2013
Thanks Roy,
I might add that tree with the white flowers in the back near my bees. Keep them happy, they make honey, I'm happy.
27 Sep, 2013
