Sunset Mirror

I bought a mirror for my garden earlier this week and hung it in the bottom corner where the sun shines late into the evening. After two dull nights, yesterday evening was clear so I took some photos.
The bottom garden in the evening sunlight, the perspective mirror is to the right of the picture
The Mirror in the sunshine
I kept popping back as the sun got lower
Finishing with this lovely glow
Not only does the mirror hide a bare patch on the fence, it lights up the whole corner of the garden in the sunlight.

It is a garden mirror Jane made from perspex so safe to hang outside. It came from Taylors garden buildings online.

Its such a clever idea Annella, I love it.

Clever idea as Cinderella said. I too have some ideas for the garden but I am forbidden by the O/H to implement.

This is just great annella, well done you!
I have wondered about getting one but couldn't see how to make it work, yours looks just perfect. Are they easy to get hold of?
1 Jul, 2011
Oh yeah! I see you there! peeping out of the corner! :))
1 Jul, 2011
I went online Sticki and it was here in 3 days
1 Jul, 2011
Brilliant, thank you!
1 Jul, 2011
I think yours looks so good because of the planting you have around it.
1 Jul, 2011
And the slope as well Sticki, it doesn't reflect the house or the neighbours houses because it is nicely sunken down there....isn't it gorgeous?
1 Jul, 2011
Ah, glad you pointed that out, thanks Karen.
1 Jul, 2011
Well, I thought I'd say...not to take anything away from Annie at all, because she is brilliant and a lot of people woudn't know where to start with that sunken area and slope. But a Mirror is quite tricky to position well...it's hard to find somewhere that doesn't reflect your house, garage, shed, greenhouse etc. I went for a bit of the greenhouse in the end as it was prettier than the other options...but I found it hard to place mine. Easier if your garden's huge of course, but not many of us are that lucky!

Your mirror certainy comes into it's own Ann, when the sun is shining - it really shows up your garden and makes it appear as if you have another garden beyond it. Just perfect.
1 Jul, 2011
Thank you Marie, I can't wait for you to see it. I'm very inspired after our weekend out and am now working on lots of little projects. I loved the court yard areas so much at Cottesbrooke and keep thinking about my corner by the garage.....pergola maybe?
Karen I have just spent an hour watering with the garden lights on and have decided to put another mirror on the garage wall, most probably the same one as it has an aged stone finish. You are right about not reflecting other buildings but there is a long view there. This garden is a b****r in some respects but seems to be good for mirrors. Poor kids wont eat again next month!!

It looks stunning in your beautiful garden!
1 Jul, 2011
Thanks Teds :o))

That is a very special touch to your wonderful garden. It's definitely in the right spot and looks fabulous there. What a great idea.

I know exactly where I would like one in my garden - do you think this window style would fit a woodland setting, I think the biggest problem may be that I don't have high fences so it would have to be almost on the ground?
2 Jul, 2011
It looks like a piece of trellis Sticki so should be ok. Post a pic of the place you want to hang it.
2 Jul, 2011
I think the perspective mirror is gorgeous...it will work anywhere where you put it Sticki. If you have the place for it...go for it! There are other styles available if you do a google search. I got my plain sheet of mirror from http://www.primrose-london.co.uk/, but they have nice framed ones there too, if I remember rightly. Enjoy!
Annie, good for you! I think this one adds so much to your garden and I can just see one on the garage as well!
2 Jul, 2011
The Ivy is starting to cover that wall so could be trained around the edges now to soften the effect. I will check the prices out on your site Karen. Mine came from Taylors garden buildings.
2 Jul, 2011
Thank you both of you, my computer is broken annella so I don't think I can put a picture on - I shall try from my phone cos it would help to have your advice.
2 Jul, 2011
Well now I can visualise it all and yes it looks fantastic. What a brilliant way of adding another dimension to your garden and disguising a boring bit of fence! Jx
2 Jul, 2011
It's lovely Annella - looks like a window into another garden. What a good idea.
2 Jul, 2011
I love it more every day sun or no sun, I will be getting another one for the garage wall
2 Jul, 2011
This works so well in your garden....I love it is so clever, OH has an idea but it is going to be rather complicated....
3 Jul, 2011
the way you have placed it looks really really good. looks fab, like a doorway into another part of the garden :-) well done you! how big is the mirror?
7 Jul, 2011
Gerberavicki, thank you. The mirror is about 4ft.
7 Jul, 2011
That first picture makes me drool. Your garden is gorgeous...the mirror looks great....too good for you....give it to me:-)))
I hate to say this Annella, but you do have a very good eye and I'm sure it wouldn't look half so good in my garden:-(
15 Jul, 2011
One would be nice behind your Fatsia Ba
15 Jul, 2011
And I thought my mirrors looked good lol! Wowo that is fantastic! I olove it and the pic with the sun..wow jsut gorgeous!
15 Jul, 2011
Thanks Pixi, but it is just a midsummer thing. That makes it really special for a few days xx
Ps The last pic is my favorite
15 Jul, 2011
My fatsia is against a fence Annella...no room. It would not necessarily reflect the nice bits of my garden either. We could swap?;-)
16 Jul, 2011
Ah yes midsummer! Thats why it looks so magical! Last pic os my fav too! Sooooooo beautiful, absolutley stunning! :)
16 Jul, 2011
That is just magical, Annella. Well done. I love mirrors, but, as other members have found, it's not so easy to place them to best effect. How many hours have I spent walking round and round the garden (like a [Tuesday] bear), mirror in hand, crawling through shrubbery, enduring the many-thorned attack of a climbing rose, or perching perilously on the topmost rung of a ladder, all in the forlorn hope of acheiving The Perfectly Placed Mirror?
It hasn't happened yet.
I fear it never will.
So, do I give up? Never. I'll not stop trying till I have in place the Looking Glass through which I might slip, just like Alice, into Wonderland.Unless, I have finally created my own Wonderland in my garden;in which case I shall just stay here!

Welcome to GOY Tbear \0/ Pics of your efforts would be appreciated and I'm sure your OH (other half) will have broken up now? It took me ages to master this, my first website, but I asked a lot of daft questions and everyone was very kind and helpful. I'm sure you'll enjoy your time on here, but it can be addictive, especially during winter when browsing others lovely gardens helps plug the gap. Annellas fantastic pics are one of my treats, but don't tell her..... she'll get big headed:-)

Gorgeous, stunning, clever and wonderful! This was a joy to see, Annella..\0/x

Wow - found your pics after you let me know that you already had the same mirror as I've just bought.
That is a great spot you have it in and the photos are amazing! Thanks for letting me know you had this mirror too- your photos are great inspiration!
