Plants and hot weather

In these last few days of extreme heat I was a bit worried about my garden plants. I needn’t be. So many of them seem to love it. The dianthus are happily covered in blooms, as are the osteospermums and cosmos. Geums are still flowering constantly and the wild honeysuckle is covered in creamy yellow blooms. The lilies have just begun and the Senetti, bought as a Mother’s Day present in March, is still flowering it’s purple socks off.
All this after only a year in what was a small patch with only a few small shrubs planted.
So why was I worrying?

I hope your plants are still all right. I understand the SW of England has had extremely hot weather today :(
I believe shrub roots go deep enough to get water even in dry weather (for a while anyway)

They soon perk up when the sun moves away from them, MtI saw on the web that RAF Wittering has recorded it as the hottest place in the country today, its just up the road from us, the chappie on the local radio was really funny as each time he gave out the report he said the only thing to say about the weather was that it was HOT,HOT HOT!! and then at teatime he said a short, sharp shower predicted tomorrow lunchtime, if its as good as last weeks we'll miss it if we blink and won't feel it either as it will dry before it hits us or the ground, lol....My roses are also loving it but there are now more apples on the floor than the tree, july wilt this year...

We have a great display of roses on one bush - better than ever before. We are grateful it hasn't been too hot here, just pleasantly warm and overcast all day. The sun where you are is just what osteospermums love isn't it, so they at least should be happy! Good to hear your garden is thriving.

Once they are established I learnt not to water as much as I once did and I find the plants do better.
