In a recent blog I showed narcissus with brown fronds around them, Siris asked what they were, well they fall each year from a conifer almost above them and have edges like a razor, the tree is about 25 years had a name when bought and think it was -——- Chinensis
Googled it and get Juniper and that it is not.
Any one grow or know of it

Had a look don't think so never seen any cones and if you look at my close up each leef (that's not a leaf) is curved and has a point like a needle and hurts, I have to collect the dead ones with leather gloves on.

Lethal weapon! No, hemlock isn't that sharp. I wonder what it is then...someone will know. It's a lovely looking tree.....great shape and pretty colours.

Brian a bit of a long shot but have you tried Podocarpus? I've a small one and the leaf form looks similar

I wondered if it was a form of Cryptomeria Brian?

Scottish could be right there is a Podocarpus chinensis, branches look the same or what about Taxus chinensis, sharp point at the end.
Sorry to start you on a quest, it is a lovely tree, excellent shape. Another question about it - did you prune the base to make it a standard shape?

Siris
I think we are close Taxus most likely Chinensis not sure the pictures I have found show small cones that I have never seen ,two possibilities 1. it's too young (25 years) ? 2. possibly male and female forms exist could be I have a male. Would prefer a female !
Another thing I noticed in the Pics Chinensis branches in all directions making very large trees Mine goes straight up and would not consider it large for its age.
The lower branches I did remove when quite small kept taking pieces out of my arms I can just walk under it now.
