Mr Toad

My ever faithful guard cat Felix has a habit of bringing me presents.
Last week was a toad.
He brings them into the kitchen and plonks them on the floor then looks at me as if to say ‘look what I got you mum’.
The toad of course has the sense to play dead so I can rescue him.
This one as you can see is now happily living in my pond.
Felix is very good as he never seems to harm them.

I always think the frogs sound like a baby, its a good thing really because I can then rescue them but if they play dead then I don`t know until its too late.
Lovely photo.....

They only play dead after they have been put down either at my feet or in the kitchen. LOL
Luckily so far none have been harmed. Lord alone knows why not due to the cats sharp teeth.

Aren't animals marvellous? We had a Black Lab who used to carry frogs around in his mouth. He'd pick them up, head first, and then place them where he thought they should be! He never harmed one of them. It was so funny watching him walk across the garden with two frogs legs hanging from his mouth. Needless to say we did not encourage him!!

Great I had to complete strip mine and start again this year.
Luckily I had a lot of sludge in the bottom and frogspawn to kick start it.
Even had a dragon fly yesterday. Will post some pond picks shortly ;)

Glad you could rescue him :o)
My cat only catches shrews and field mice. She doesn't kill them, but brings them in the house and lets them go lol

Ohh dont - my kitten has only just been going out (a fortnight) and shes caught two birds (one dead one rescued! - why do we put bells on their collers when its their tail that wags when they are about to hunt!!) and loads of bees, wasps, flies etc just dreading the first mouse or frog!!

My cat Jonathan brings frogs home and he is not interested in being friends. I try and rescue and release if possible but he just heads out and tracks them down again. Bad news is our neighbours have just installed a small pond this weekend with the view to attracting frogs (other neighbour already has them) and he loves spending time round there already. They get on ko with him at the moment but all that may end if they end up frogless !!!
I have heard the noise they make too and it is suprisingly loud and sounds a bit like a human baby - it doesn't seem to deter him.

Lovely picture !
My 2 cats like them too, frogs mostly, they don't have the sense to play dead though and the more they jump and squeak - the more fun they are :-((
