Day 2!!

Day 2

Up comes the path and the stump grinder man removes the Hazel stump:

Let there be light!
This yew hedge is in my neighbours garden and has blocked sun out, and yes, we paid for it to be reduced in height

Old gravel being cleared and my beautiful Portuguese Laurel

Levelling off and end of day 2

Oh my....fancy you having to pay to reduce your neighbours' hedge....how can they live with themselves? Oh well, you got your result anyway, so worth it. It's coming on well....very exciting! :D

Karen I am about to pay for the neighbours Ash tree to be cut back AGAIN. I am so fed up with no light in my bottom garden.... Why do councils slap preservation orders on trees but leave neighbours to suffer? I think they should help with some of the costs....Grrrrrrrrr. The lady next door never ventures out in the sunshine and obviously doesn't care. Sorry Booboosmur nice blog, it is coming along well :o))))

Bummer....not good :(

The work goes on. It seems to be going well so far. Keep us posted :o)

I know Karen, they also have, if you can see in the pics Leylandii conifers at least 30 ft high blocking out the sun from the top patio (beyond the arch)behind the P Laurel.

Thanks Hywel and Annella, Annella, it's frustrating isnt it?
and the laws about this are very grey areas. I was led to beleive that any trees or hedges above 2m high were illegal if they block out a neighbours sunlight.

My gardener is a tree surgeon and said he will cut the Leylandiis down for my neighbours, but are they gonna pay about £800 for him to do it???

There ought to be a change in the law about this. Really, the council ought to offer to do the work in the first instance for cost price, and then the people obliged to maintain it at 2m or less.

Hear, Hear, KarenS. There have been one or two threads about anti-social neighbours and hedge/tree heights on Goy. I think it is a very common and completely frustrating problem. I'm thinking of hiring myself out as a "phantom hedge-wrecker" so horrid neighbours can't point the finger and demand compensation. :o)

There certainly has been progress you must be pleased to finally get some light to your garden .......its diabolical that you have to pay to reduce someone elses hedge and thats a monster leylandii hedge .........they definitely should rethink the by-laws concerning these I'm with Karens on this 2m or less is high enough for a hedge

can't wait for the next instalment ....:o)

lol @ Gattina !, Niver i'm gonna darn well make sure they keep on top of it once its cut down.

I`m my own worse enemy Boo, we have an old hawthorn hedge that runs across the bottom of our gardens, its on the boundary maps of the town and by law cannot be removed, its huge but only blocks the light to my own garden, every year I say its got to be lopped to let the light back in but then I watch all the birds who live and nest in there and simply haven`t got the heart to deprive them of their home, lol.....
