Changes in the neighbourhood 2015

I walk Ashby & we let him out the back every morning. Not much change.
As I write looking out the back the saddest change is the “Witches Hat” is no more. A pointy fir tree a few doors down has been lopped. It looks stupid. We were half expecting to hear the “Dreaded Electric Saw Sound” to finish her off. More like flappy wings now……
Around the block, car parking & extensions seem to be the priority. New people move in & hammer trees without seeing what they are first. One of my friends was a landscape gardener & planted rare trees in the front garden. They grew too fast and cut out all the light so new incumbents have a parking area minus trees…..
A landscaped Oriental Garden was shared by 2 houses. One of the neighbours was more interested in parking & the other extended so rubble /car is the order of the day…..
Having said that plants 2 inches high look odd next to old big bamboooo.

You had the tree going to a nice point

And they'll all wonder why when the area floods due to too much paving and no tree roots to suck up the water!

We live by Bramhall Park , Lady Brook Valley which are walkable. I suppose I could count the fully paved fronts , 1/4 paved & 50/50 on our Rd and the offending one at the back........Ashby would cross his legs or I could be accused of being a nosey parker....I think all gardeners look over......They can't help it.

It's amazing isn't it how quickly people new to a property will dig out or cut down before waiting to see what develops. I'm always sad to see trees cut down.

We have just lost a huge playing field and play area for the younger children at the back of us, it was a lovely green area and very popular, I used to walk my dogs there sometimes as did many people, it was there all the time I was growing up and can remember looking for tadpoles in the ponds that were there when I was a kid, that field flooded most winters so it will be interesting to see where the water goes in years to come, I hope for the sake of the houses already on the edge of the field that they've made a good job of the drainage system or someone is going to have a pond without digging it....

Did a very rough count on our side of the road walking with Ashby in the frost. Front gardens all have off road parking for at least 1 car. All have walls or hedges. Some walls & front hedges too big for the plots.
4 plots are paved car zone only, (minimal planting/none)
1 plot is mainly for cars with a built strip at the side with brilliant planting.
6 plots are garden focused with small off road parking.
6 plots are car focused with more paving than garden.
