As it was just about coming light this morning i was just starting to wake up, and quess what was coming over the houses, was loads of wild swans, making there way to marton mere, for the winter, did’nt get time to go down stairs to get my camera, so i just whatched them from my bedroom window, i bet there was over a 100 of them, marton mere is so close to me, i can walk there in about 20mins, keep saying i’m going to go & thats as fare as i get. Must admit they where very noisey, think it was them who woke me up, infact i know it was.

I'd love to have seen them, Clarice. We sometimes get geese in formation, but not swans.

Besides getting swans coming over my house, there is also lots of ducks aswell, they must really like the lanc's fresh air at marton mere BB. It is a wonderful site when they come, but like i say they mostly come in the night. when they do come in day time, if you hear them in time as there is so many of them if you have any washing out you have to go and get them in quick, or wash your cloths again, plus we have got the local seaguls that come over aswell but if weather not to bad they stay on the prom.

What a fantastic start to your day!
I live next to a re-claimed colliery, after it was closed down, it was landscaped and they built a huge lake that attracted lots of swans and geese, unfortunately there are a lot of shooting types near by - you have guessed it, there has been no fly past of swans and geese this year.
How anyone can shoot such beautiful creatures that do no harm is beyond me. I hope that maybe in the future the birds will repopulate the lake.
The miners were great folk for a bit of poaching, to supplement thier diet. The new breed of hunting, shooting and fishing people are in a different league.

Sounds as though they made quite a clatter, Clarice. Hope it wasn't too early for you!! The sight of so many birds flying together in formation must have been quite an eye opener.
