June daze...

After our winter of “Snow-on-Snow” this last month has been “sun and more sun” so can’t complain… and so far there hasn’t been a hose-pipe ban here either – time will tell!
This last week I’ve spent “pottering” and reading lots of library books when it’s been too hot to weed. Last one has been “Planting for Colour” by Susan Chivers – one of the “Hillier Gardener’s Guides” which has got me thinking about moving plants about – wrong time of course! So I’ve been taking photos to remind me of what’s flowering where and what I want / need to move….
I realise that a lot of the front of border is white… and that would be better further back to give an illusion of depth…
A lot of the new border appears to be lilac at the moment and I would like to add some more dramatic colours to that.
So… more thought and photos and then plan what I’ll do come the autumn. I do think I need to move some of the Aquilegia closer together to create a drift and take out some that has self seeded – and perhaps move the blue lupins all together to that side rather than have them “dotted”. There’s a bright yellow from a neighbouring garden which I can see in the corner that looks really out of place and clashes with everything so I need to think carefully about what I can do to at least mute it slightly.
Sweet peas (pink perrenials) are growing up the fence there and I also have a climbing Hydrangea (white) just beginning to climb, which might soften it all slightly, once it begins to flower… I bought a new Lonicera. – Mint Crisp, and I’m hoping that will add some texture and colour along the fence too…
Looking at the back fence I know I planted a Persian variagated ivy but it can’t be very happy as it’s not growing well at all… so I’m going to have to move it – but where to put it? Back to the drawing board, I think…
