Steam Train Adventure

This week we had the pleasure of Niamh for a whole day on Thursday. Can you believe she will be 3 at the end of this month? We set off from home and drove the 45 mins to the Isle of Purbeck, which is a really beautiful area of marshes and hills near to Poole Harbour. We parked up at the top end of the Swanage Steam railway line and caught the train which trundles past Corfe Castle and on to Swanage Town Centre. It was really windy at the coast and the waves were rolling in, so no sandcastles or paddling this time, but we had a bracing walk and Niamh loved the playpark. Then chips for lunch before heading back to the station. Swanage was already getting busy with visitors. I can’t imagine what it’s like in the summer! Anyway, we alighted back at the top station where we sat and enjoyed some Purbeck Ice Cream before heading home. The railway is a really beautiful example of the triumph of enthusiasm and effort against all odds. Here is the History if you are interested… https://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/history I had no idea it was such a new feature until I read this. The track had to be completely relaid by volunteers!

They are lovely at that age, aren't they Karen. I have two great grandchildren, one 18 months and the other 3 and a half and love them to bits.
Niamh is definitely enjoying herself.

A lovely day out for you all. I took my boys to Swanage for a hol once and I seem to remember a derelict railway track.
They are in their 50’s now. I will look up the railway link, Ty for posting it.

Was there a special event going on with the railway?
My son & family were at Corfe Castle and said the railway seemed busier than usual
