Here they are Spritz, or anyone else, see if you can tell me what 3 of them are named. What is the best way to give them the heave ho!!
This is a New Zealand “something or other.” a terrible little creeper that is now in my Scottish moss & I have to take the latter out to rid my self of this little devil. Nice by it self, but man it creeps.
Corsican Mint: I should have known by the name this is one bad little plant for my garden. We have a gravel driveway & it is spreading all over. Car drive over it, it just laughs & say, bring it on, I am a survivor, boo hoo, why did I not know from the name?? It smells great though & is not too bad, I can tolerate it.
Some Sedum???don’t know, but it is driving me bananas. I dislike it with a passion. The smallest pieces that is left behind will grow to a monsterous size, U know what I mean. A 10 for an invasive plant, grrrrrr!!!!!
A Violet??
A lovely little specimen, but can it spread by seed, I am tolerating this one, but not for long. It is a lovely plant in a pot on cement where it will not spread its little seeds Name????

I can't be more specific than yourself about the names Doon. I have that violet aswell but it hasn't spread much. Maybe it doesn't like Welsh soil lol. I'm glad :o)
I hope you get to grips with your little friends before they overtake you.

I think we have the smaller wild what I know as 'dog" violet Hywel although for the life of me I don't know why it would be called that!Got smoother softer, brighter green leaves than this one?

I have that one aswell Arlene but neither of them spreads much in my garden

I had that Sedum thingy on a flat roof, Doon. I assumed the birds had depostited it there. Upshot was that it covered the whole of the roof which was quite large but I left it as a green roof and so never had problems with leaks as it took up water from the roof.

Does that middle one have little yellow flowers, Doon? I recognise it - I had it and it spread ...and spread...and then we had the 'cow' invasion (yes, really!) and they trod on it. Then we had heavy frosts, and that finished it off! LOL.
Now you know how to get rid of THAT one! I'll try to remember its name.
The Violet is, I think, Viola labradorica - just don't allow it to seed itself! Difficult, I know, but that's how it spreads.
First one? No idea at all. Sorry.....:-((

Thanks to U all. The little vioplet is no shrinking violet & it is steadily coming out. The sedum has yellow flowers, & I will import some cows, and ask god 4 some frost. Lol!!!that should then do it hey Spritz, that is a promise, heh, heh!!!
The NZ little creeper is an aweful menace as well, and chokes things out, where the Corsican mint just goes where ever!!! So U girls have NO problems with the latter??Thanks4 the input, Pipsqueak, Hywel, Arlene & Gilli as well.

I think the first one is an acaena, possibly a.macrophylla 'Copper Carpet'

Can you remember the name of the one the cows trod on, Andrew, please?

Would it be Sedum acre. That has yellow flowers. I have it. There is also a similar one with white flowers . but I'm don't know it's name, other than sedum.
It's common name is Biting Stonecrop.

No - I know that one - this has an odd name......errr...I'm racking my brains for it! I think it begins with a 'D'.
13 Nov, 2009
I think the last one is Viola labradorica. It can set seed with forming flowers, which is a bit odd. I had it and it seeded everywhere. The sedum is also a terrrible nuisance. I have seen it colonise the chippings on cemetary plots, even though they are on concrete.
The only plant that give me trouble is Anemone x hybrida, the 'Japanese Anemone'. Impossible to get rid of it in clay soils.
14 Nov, 2009
Snap, Vincent! I already ID'd the Viola (see above).
I SO agree about the Jap. Anemones! Didn't you see my two blogs on 'THUGS' ? I have other thugs in my garden - but I think that one gives me the most hassle - and I haven't got clay soil, either!

I wish I could get my white one to grow into a nice clump. It's small even in my new enriched soil. My pink one died off completely :o((
14 Nov, 2009
Very strange, Hywel, how they are total thugs in one place, and won't grow in another!
14 Nov, 2009
Thanks U goyers, always a pleasure, to come up with the names, BUT how to get rid of it. I think Andrew & Hywel, will now be able to nail those 2, when I search for "help".
14 Nov, 2009
I kvow this is unbelievable but I have just discovered the blog element of this site. I should also read all the posts more carefully (eh, Spritz....) Here's to the thugs, past, present, nice and plain nasty.
15 Nov, 2009
Hywel - it's not so strange with Japanese anemones as they don't like being moved. While I can grow them quite well, I have failed to establish them in another part of the garden. I also gave some to a friend a few years ago and they took a couple of years before they got going.

Crikey, those stonecrop/Sedum grow anywhere, don't they. You only have to drop a tiny peice and it will grow in a crack in the path or anywhere else!
