Our Pond Area

We are still working on our pond area, or at least thinking about it.

My Other Half has cleared the overgrown section and now has two fruit trees ready to plant. One is an apple tree; the other is a cherry. At the moment they are both in pots, We plan to cover the ground with membrane (just ordered from the Amazon site), to keep out the weeds and then have gravel on top. It all takes time and at the moment the area look sad, as I’m sure you’ll agree.

Lots of leaves on the ground but no point in clearing them until they are all down. We compost them and also use them to protect the Alstroemerias. Bought five huge strong plastic bags to store the leaves as we collect them, then we let them dry before putting the flower pots to bed.

One section on the bank now has cyclamen. The ones in the front garden have spread so quickly we are hoping these will do the same. I do like these little plants.

The pond has that awful duck weed which we remove regularly as a rule but now it’s Autumn it’s not quite so important. At any rate I think it offers the fish protection from herons. (unless they’ve been to Specsavers!)

I always enjoy seeing this corner of your garden Eirlis. What a good idea to put cyclamen there, so pretty at this time of year. Any tips about how you remember where they are when the leaves disappear?

Cyclamen are so sweet, the flowers look like little exotic butterflies to me, the area will be pretty when they spread a bit & are all flowering. Will you be putting any bulbs in amongst them?

Steragram: As long as they know where they are, I don't mind!
We have quite a few under trees at the front and they seem to be thriving.

Grenfinger: Yes, my OH turned up with a "free" (after spending £20), pack of bulbs from the Garden Centre. Forgotten what they are but they are small and pretty!

Our membrane has been ordered and when it arrives the process of tidying up that area can start.
