Slugs and Mare's Tail - Who would be a gardener?

I’m a Mum of two and a gran to one. With the youngest at Uni now I have a little more time to spend on me (at last).
When I moved into my house I wasn’t that keen on gardening and had a habit of killing off house plants (still do for some reason).
The garden was a mess and didn’t even have a flat lawn. I got help and the dump turned into something resembling a garden. A friend planted a few shrubs for me and a few other plants. Over time I have really enjoyed pottering about and find gardening a real stress buster.
Due to other commitments I had neglected this wee garden for a while but when I looked out at it at the beginning of this year I felt really bad. My gardening hat is back on and I’m trying to tidy up, clear out some plants that aren’t doing too well and bring back some life.
I’m learning by my mistakes I hope. I have a tight budget to try to treat myself on pay day to something new for the garden. Trying to keep to perenials and shrubs to that I don’t have to buy too many bedding plants every year. Unfortunately I don’t have a greenhouse – it’s on my wish list when I can make a space.
In the good weather (not that good weather occurs that often in the Glasgow area) I find myself wandering about the garden in my PJ’s getting rid of slugs and Mare’s Tail – the bain of my life – before I go to work. Oh those lucky Retirees who can spend a few leisurely hours every morning.
I learned my lesson with the squirrels – I was so chuffed when they first appeared in my garden until they started digging up the bulbs!!!!!!!!!!!
The neighbours cat drives me mad as well especially when it leaves smelly little presents which I usually find when I’m doing a little weeding, Yuk!
But those pests aside the bumble bees, the butterflies and the little birds who visit help to make it all worthwhile.

Glad your out in the garden when weather permits evy. I know what you mean about the weather as I was born in Glasgow! Look on the bright side, come summer you get those long daylight hours when you can sit out til really late.

You would have caught pneumonia here this morning, Evy! We have had three horrible, cold and wet days down here. Definitely not PJ in the garden weather. :-(

I spotted a big snail this morning he had nearly reached the top of one of my 2 feet high containers and I got him (it must have taken him all night to get that far) he nearly reached his breakfast ie my new strawberries - anyway half an hour later I was still out there hunting them down in me pj's LOL found about 6 of them - Ben took them to the park (bless)

Enjoyed your blog, Evy. A belated welcome to GoY. My garden is full of evergreens and perennials, they are certainly a cheaper option in the long run. I am one of the lucky retired. No car and no holidays but then every day is a holiday now! Good luck with your gardening and keep fighting those enemies!!
