Country Flower Show

A heavenly odour fills the tent: That strangely non- committal scent of parsnips, people, grass & sun & onions-all rolled into one.
In eager queues, we gardeners trot to see what prizes we have got, & swell the chorus of dissent that roars & rattles round the tent.
Among the roundabouts & swings, the losers think most dreadful things; & Mrs Brown was heard to say, she’d have the law on Mrs Grey.
I don’t suggest that Mrs Brown buys ALL her turnips in the town; but though I dig & dig & dig, I cannot find one half as big.

My gooseberries won this year. Hywel I once had to run the auction of Harvest goods and there were lots of marrows - selling the first two was quite easy but after that it got more and more difficult...

My babies won first prize for the housing association's garden of the year.
The neighbours put me forward, but didn't tell me.
All I did was shove some things in the ground.
The plants did all the hard work. Lol.
