Yesterday we had breakfast & then hummed & ha’d about what to do with my 2nd day of holiday. Money’s very tight…so somewhere free!!!

Decided on a trip to the seaside which in our case means Weymouth as that’s the nearest.
Partly a gardening blog as I took pics of the municipal flowers beds too!

The sun was out…honest…there was a gentle breeze…we took the back way in (all potholes & sheep!) as they are building the new road for the sailing regattas for the Olmpics & the traffic build up is horrendous during the school hols.

The sun had brought everyone out & who can blame them…

We even came across donkey rides & Punch & Judy…altho’ he was taking a break so no pic…& the Royal Hotel in all it’s glory!

Further down the promanade there’s always a sand sculpture to look at…this week it’s the Wizard of Oz, an ammonite & dragon…

Then we stopped for a pint of Stowford Press, the yummiest cider in the world…& then over the bridge for fish & chips sat on the harbour edge with our legs dangling over the water…so…no pics of my legs thankfully but this is the pretty harbour & it’s fishing boats, yachts & cruisers…

Back along the seafront admiring the beautifully planted flower beds…the usual marigolds, that silvery leafed stuff, begonias, petunias, oh & that purple flower that’s used in dried flower arrangements! The town clock where my husband’s mother arranged to meet his father for their first date…

There were a couple of unusual plant I didn’t recognise,,,a lovely purple foliage plant a bit like purple curly kale & some kind of bullrush thing…& another pic showing how crowded the beach was!!

We had a lovely day & so did everyone else by the looks of it…a long – awaited day in the sun. :0)

I'm really glad you liked it...it was fun to stop & take pics as we bimbled along!
The beach starts pebbly at Preston then goes to sand & there are loads of pedalloes, beach huts etc...all the traditional seaside stuff.

Oh poor Ian...could you not see thru' the curtains?
You must be itching to get back out there but take your time & make sure you are all in one piece again!
I would've got you a stick of rock but you know how bad that is for you!!

Living proof lovely days out do not need to cost a packet.

That's true Denise and...it was good to see the traders getting some action selling ice creams, sunhats & rubber rings etc...last year they looked so miserable in the bad weather.

Enjoyed your blog, Fluff. It brought back lots of memories. We went to Weymouth nearly every year when I was alot younger than I am now. Loved it.

Thanks BBB...It's only an hour & a bit from us so we go often...even in the winter. We were saying how fab it would be to own one of the seafront houses...the sea-view must be different every day. Sadly even the beach huts are worth thousands!!

Enjoyed looking at a differant seaside town.

Thanks Fluff! I miss the sea! Having moved to Central Scotland, I don't see the sea very often! So thank you for taking me!

Enjoyable blog Fluff....my kind of day out too, right down to the cider!
You were lucky with the weather, here it rained until early afternoon...

I do so like Weymouth harbour - and the fish and chips by the bridge were wonderful the last time I had them - 4/5 years ago now. Glad you had a good day out.

You're very welcome Madperth & thank you Potty & Wagger...yes it was a good day.

I enjoyed your seaside blog, thank you for sharing it with us.

I love Weymouth especially the harbour bit. I've been there several times.

Something I have noticed about your photos and have commented on to Carol before, People don't seem to mingle these days like they used to. All these beach tents and wind breaks, not only are they there to stop the wind from disturbing you, they also cut you off from your nieghbours and stop you from enjoying the 'craic' as madperth or maccrimon might put it. I can't see one game of 30 aside football or a group game of cricket like we enjoyed when we were kids.
Sorry for taking over your blog Fluff, I just thought about it while I was looking through your lovely photos again.
:~))

No you are very welcome Ian...good to have you back...you are quite right...there were no team games or anything, just seperate family groups.

Sadly... I think people are so worried about theft or the protection of their kids from weirdos that they 'draw the wagons' round as it were.

I suppose your right, I guess we would be careful of strangers around Holly, I was just thinking about when I was younger we used to have a great time and met loads of new friends by playing these team games. Its a shame really how times have changed.

14 Aug, 2009

It's more than a shame...it curtails children's' natural inquisitiveness & social skills...when I was a kid I used to go off for hours & play with other kids on the beach & at home in the fields & woods...& it gives parents some time to themselves. You're right it is a shame ...but the kids on Weymouth beach seemed to be happy just to get out in the sun tho'!!

Times certainly have changed and personally speaking I don't think every advance is a benefit. Still a lovely day out and as you say, you never see an unhappy kid at the seaside ! ! ! :~))
