On a whim I took the camera out into the garden.
Thirty minutes later I have amassed a collection of pictures of Aquilegia (Columbine,Grannys Bonnet, Dove Flowers).
Herewith, the variation in flowers and colour of this, always-welcome, plant…

Wow - I love these plants. I've got a few but not as many as you (I'm so jealous! lol)

We only bought a few of them. The rest were already here or have come from seed.
Thanks Linda and Sheila.

Fabulous pictures. Its incredible just how many different colours you find in that one plant type. I have 4 or 5 I think (starting from possibly 1 version). The differences just amaze me. Beautiful flowers an absolute must have plant as far as I'm concerned. You have a fantastic collection there.

There is a white flowered variety with a rather nice scent - A: vulgaris fragrans.
I have it on the list of; 'plants to grab when happenstance permits.'
Thanks Lil and Sam

I grew some from seed. Put the plants out on a bed on an old pigsty concrete base at the top of my allotment. Then the Council used horrible Wasp Killer to clear the dangerous infestation on my compost heap. Wouldnt put this compost on land where I would grow food.
Last winter I cleared it out dumping it onto the surface of the Aquilegia bed.
They have really thrived this year. Lovely plant, and so easy to grow from seed for beginners to try.

When I have been out walking the dog, I noticed that there are quite a few making their way through the Forest, growing wild.
I have my eye on a couple of nice coloured ones that I hope to grab the seed from.
Thanks for the comments.
