browsing through BBC news, I found a story on why potted plants are stunged; http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/18612661
at the bottom of the page was a link to the BBC’s Wonderful World of Plants, which looks very interesting; thought I’d post the link for others to have a look at. http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/plants

Well, what our neighbours noticed on MRI, common gardeners know by experience, isn´t it true?
I have a pine tree, which did not suffer in a big pot n my balcony, but I was too lazy to check all the time if the container isn´t dried, so I replanted it in garden. It is now almost small tree. That´s the principle of bonsai, too.

i repotted my Japanese Sedge today, the rootball was the whole pot, took me ages to get out, and then more ages to tease the roots out so i could separate all the babies. sixteen in all. sigh. wonder how big it would have got if it hadn't been confined??
