bees and geranium

I’m delighted to find that the geraniums attract bees by the dozen: I’m not used to having bees around, so love to hear their buzz – don’t know whether my pleasure is child-like or merely child-ish!
for some reason, this one seems to have a red bum …
I was a bit too slow, or they were a bit too quick, but I got some “take-off” pics
and one striped bullet in flight!

yesterday I gave up trying to snap indivisual bees and just aimed at the whole shrub, hoping to get some "group" activity - lol now I've got to upload them and then zoom in and search each bit by bit, playing spot-the-bee - at least wtih more bees I've got more chance than chasing a single bee round the Quince!

Lovely blue Fran. They are really rewarding to grow. Long lasting. Easily moved about. Just occasionally thuggish but no need to let them boss you about. They like sun and shade too. Even clamber up to get to the light sometimes. As you say the bees like them a lot. I have Roxanne coming into flower. A bit of a sprawling but a delightful blue. I have several patches of them dotted about in the borders.

Smashing photo's Fran, the bees love blue flowers, my blue delphiniums have been smothered and yet I rarely saw many bees on the cherry one, I think they stopped off at that one as a stopgap on route to the blues, lol.....

Thanks @ Dprjac - I took up one of hte smaller geraniums yesterday - I'd cut it back and left the flowers spread across the lawn so the bees could get what was left. Took a bit to dig up, but when i started splitting it it fell naturally into babies, each with a good length of root - about 20! spent the afternoon putting about 15 into the front borders, spacing them (had the idea of putting Welsh Poppies between them) - started early afternoon, blazing sunshine, no breeze at all, and soon wished I hadn't! but once they were dug up, they had to go in quickly, or as quickly as I could manage. There's still a few little 'uns waiting to be potted; I loosely covered the roots with a cloth and damped it, hope that'll hold them. if not, well, I've got about another four geranium mobs to sort out - all o f them bigger than tnan this one!
thanks @ Lincs. I never thought of bees liking blue flowers - all the nectar-feeders seem to be red and yellow, but they certainly do like the geraniums. Saw a T prog years ago, got it on vid somewhere, about how insects see; bees can see ultra-violet, so the colours they see are totally differnt to what we see in the "real world"

Fran I`ve Got two huge clumps of this blue hardy geranium (don`t know its name) and as you say it gets covered in bees. Your photos have really done justice, I took about half a dozen pics and the bees can`t be seen in one of them, I`m sure the blighters hide under the leaves when they see the camera.lol.

lol Stroller, I'm sure they do it on purpose - the times I've been sitting there watching them, only to find, when I've got my camera, that they're nowhere to be seen - or heard! and when I give up and put the camera away, hey presto, there they are again.
Mind you, with four large clumps, I could hardly miss - though I did, lol, often!

Fran, if you can see the world through the eyes of a child, you will always have joy! Lovely photos, well captured!
