they had a deal on in B & Q not so long ago with them but not one of them worked :-/ so i went up to the fish farm and got some proper advice... and the proper stuff to plant them in... do you know you need speical compost for them and baskets and gravel etc...not being an expert myself i ended up in a right mess which took ages to sort out.... anyway your best bet San is to go to your local expert... don't take chances with the average general suplier... really is worth the extra effort and expense... you'll find a nice selection... i have Snake Grass, an Iris, Pickerel Hyacinth, and a lovely little yellow one the name excapes me- sorry... i can look it up if you want to know, but it is related to marigolds i think the common name may even be 'Marsh Marigold'... don't hold me to that... but pic's of all in my garden pages... hope this helps

Would it be best and eaiser to ask a pond expert would it be the same as plants in ponds .

I thought that is what i said Morgana.... Pond or water plant expert will do.... just not a general suplier like B & Q or a general garden centre that has a few water plants at the back.... i went to the fish farm, there is a big one just out in the sticks a bit from here.. and i knew they do anything and everything for a pond and aquariums. would imagine a pond or water plant suplier or expert would be just as good... it just does'nt pay to cut corners in this.. there is far more to it than i realised... i could have saved myself time and money and loads of stinky hassle and i do mean stinky... if you get it wrong does it stink!.... lol if i had just done it properly the first time, i could have avoided it... after the stuff the fish farm gave me to sort out the water... it is all sorted....but it did take a while.....

don't know San, not had mine through a winter yet... i know i have to remove the fountain though... but everything else will stay, the plants are all hardy so i gues it will be ok... most of what i have is perennial though so i doubt it will look much in winter ... will have to wait and see.... thanks Holly and Keithsmum

It really has filled out! Lots of colour, too. :-)

Sorry I can't help on the water feature...I'm sure someone can.

i think it depends on type San, mine is solar powered and said clearly on box protect from frost... but there are some that can be left outside... but it is always wise if you are able to remove it, as water swells when frozen and can cause pipe/tubes to burst... then come spring you will have a leak... ofcourse if yours is constant.. and quite powerful you proberly would'nt get this problem as running water does'nt freeze... well not usually... but if it is like mine - only goes when sun is out... or if it is slow flowing it could freeze... hense a possible dilema...

Thanks Sandra and Spritz... i am very pleased with how it's coming along... ofcourse i can see a few changes that will need to be made in the near future... but is'nt that all part of the fun :D
